Most of us are aware of the advantages relating to solar power, not only from the 'green' aspect but a money saving point of view too.

We don't need to live in Florida, because, believe it or not Hertfordshire has an abundance of daylight and even with our varying degrees of sun, we can still capture this free resource, store it and use the energy to light and heat our homes.

We can even arrange to feed our surplus energy into the grid, actually selling the surplus energy to the main supplier.

Don't let the thought of feeding solar energy back into the National Grid put you off, you don't need to perform any engineering. No human intervention is required other than flicking a switch.

When the world's energy resource hits the point of forecast where it is under threat, and it is even more expensive than it is now, you can rest assured that you personally have provided for your future generations and as long as they occupy the house they will not want for energy if you have sufficient panels. That is a good feeling.

Installing solar energy panels will reduce our dependency on fossil fuels such as coal for generating power. It also reduces our power bills and even adds value to our property by making it more desirable.

Utility companies and energy suppliers areconstantly hiking up their prices. We have an opportunity to opt out major energy bills by living in with a solar powered home. It is unlikely that we can totally remove ourselves from the grid, but at we can at least have the option to harvest our own power and manage our own power.

A square meter panel on your roof can collect 1kWh of power per hour based on on a normal sunny day so you could probably harvest abot 6 kWh of total energy per day from that small surface area.

The average family home needs about 30 kWh per day. Therefore we need a 5 square meter area of solar panels. Could this size panel generate enough power to run your home?.
