Cuffley Camp Carbone Hill, Cuffley, Herts EN6 4PR. 01707 872632
Located within easy reach of London the Centre is in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The Centre staff are part of a professional team of advisors, teachers and instructors.

Residential and day courses, summer camps, activity days, family camping in August and choose from a large range of wonderful birthday parties.

Summer holidays might be an exciting time for some, but for parents and carers it is six or more weeks of sourcing children's holiday activities.

There are choices of course, depending on budget and availability – good holiday clubs get booked up very quickly and early bookings are always recommended.

Au pairs may be a good option, they can be based from your home and escort your children to various events and activities. Ensure a good itinerary is planned to prevent boredom, the au pair may enjoy coffee mornings with her mates but that's not what you will be paying her for. Also ensure that the entertainment and activities are not things that your kids would normally do at the weekend.

Be mindful that au pairs are generally from another country, living-in is an option and some housework can be part of the package. They often come to the UK to learn and improve English so there may be a language barrier with your kids.. but nothing that a good interview wouldn't reveal.

Don't be surprised if a male au pair turns up from the agency – they are becoming increasingly popular. Child care qualifications are a bonus, not the norm.

Play schemes or holiday clubs?
Play schemes my be a little more gentle than holiday clubs in the sense that there may be organised activities such as outings or indoor events such as entertainers, art and crafts etc. Holiday clubs may be a little more 'active' with games such as football and playground equipment.

Don't judge the scheme by the title though! A holiday club may perfectly suit your gentle kids. Health and safety is a major concern and ensuring that your chosen playscheme is regularly inspected by Ofsted provided peace of mind.

Some holiday camps have 'stay away' facilities, camping, hostels and boarding, they may concentrate on specific activities such as football, tennis, water sports, climbing. Rambling.

All in all, research and talk to other parents whose children have been to summer holiday camps.
