Berkhamsted is known locally as Berko. For the past seventy years it has had a variety od spellings;Berkhampstead, Great Berkhamsted and Berkhamstead and boasts a population of almost 20,000 people. It is situated in the west of Hertfordshire, between the towns of Tring and Hemel Hempstead. One claim to fame is that William The Conquerer was offered the crown here.

Castle
It was outside the Saxon fort that became Berkhamsted castle that
William the Conqueror was finally handed the English crown in 1066.
Still remaining after a thousand years are the substantial earthworks
on which the Norman castle was built.
Open all year exc. Christmas Day and New Years Day.
Founded 1950, it is the oldest club in Hertfordshire. About 50 members including juniors. Outdoor venue at Lockharts Field, Cow Roast. Indoor venue at Chiltern Archery, Buckland Village. Runs a beginners' course each summer starting mid-May.
