Ardeley is on the
river Beane, close to Buntingford station and Stevenage. A population
of some 464. The manor was given by Athelstane to the Dean and Chapter
of St Paul's. Ardeley-Bury once belonged once to the Cornwalls,
and passed on to the Chaunceys, then to the Murrays. The parish
includes Wood End, Moor Green and Cromer. Ardeley is a picturesque
village with thatched cottages along the green and a thatched village
hall together with duck pond and church yard. The 13th century church
was repaired in 1859. Ardeley has an annual fete in which all profits
go to the parish's church.
Cromer
