Aldenham
Country Park
Aldenham Country Park comprises
175 acres of woodland, Meadows, parkland and reservoir offering the
perfect setting for everyone whether it is a quiet family picnic or
energetic romp in the adventure playground and toddlers' play area.
A
visit to Winnie-the-Pooh's '100 Aker Wood' is a must for the family
of all ages, visit the homes of Pooh Bear and Christopher Robin not
forgetting Eeyore, Piglet and Owl.
There
is an ongoing conservation programme creating a wildlife haven throughout
the year. Spring and Summer brings the woodlands and meadows alive
with wild flowers, shrubs, insects. 'Twitchers' and bird enthusiasts
will be able to see swallows, meadow pipits, skylarks and waterfowl
such as ducks and swans.
Anglers will be interesting in the coarse fishing facilities. A permit
is required and available from from the Bailiff (020 8953 4978 Good
stocks of tench, bream, pike, roach and perch and others are available.
Sailing
is also permitted in conjunction with the Aldenham Sailing Club, seven
days a week (020 8207 3782). Aldenham Sailing Club is a recognised
RYA training centre and Volvo Champion Club. This means that they
offer training to national standards and in a similar way to other
centres. They also put allot of effort into developing the sailing
of young people in the club.
Aldenham
Park specialises in breeding rare livestock and is famous for its
Aldenham Longhorn Cattle. Other rare breeds include Tamworth pigs,
White-faced Woodland and Leicester sheep. Those interested in the
Knights of old may be interested in the herd of Bagot goats, it is
thought they were brought back from the Crusades in the 13th Century...
It is also suggested that they originate from a cross of ferrel goats
native to this country. The animal enclosures also include; shire
horses, poultry and rabbits - Open from 10am each day, closing at
3.30pm
Aldenham Park is RADAR approved. So there are pushchair/wheelchair-friendly
paths and trails passing through shady woodland, across parkland and
around the 65 acre lake, making it easy for those with mobility problems
